New Year Celebrations at My Village

f8.jpgThe new year with all its excitement and merry making has come to Nihiluwa. This is a festival that the people of Nihiluwa eagerly wait for  every year. With it come new hopes and aspirations for a happy life, free from want and disease for still another year. The harvesting season is over in Nihiluwa.
Parents have bought new clothes for their children. There are swings in every garden. The favorite folk song “Onchili Chili Chil-la Ma-le” echoes through the length and breadth of Nihiluwa, and the children swing away to its rhythm.
Mother has already laid the table with plenty of ripe plantains, Kokis, Kewun, and other sweetmeats.
